Hi, how can we help?

What is periodontology?
Periodontology is a part of dentistry that performs diagnosis and treatment of soft and hard tissue diseases surrounding teeth. Periodontal treatment includes gingival recession, gingivitis, gingival enlargement, scaling, early or late periodontal diseases.

Gingival disease indications

First of all, it should be noted that healthy gingiva is light pink in color. It sticks firmly to the tooth and the bone, has a bright – lumpy appearance similar to the orange peel. But:

• If swelling and redness are seen in the gingiva,

• If there is gingival recession and the root surface is exposed to tenderness,

• If black areas appear on the edge of the gingiva or between the teeth due to tartars,

• If inflammation occurs between tooth and gingiva,

• If the teeth are swinging, elongation occurs and there is a gap between the teeth,

• If there is a feeling of bad odor or taste in the mouth, you should be examined by a dentist without delay and should start your treatment.

What are the causes of gingival disease?

Along with being the main cause of periodontal disease is bacteria, other factors can affect your gingiva’s health.

Uncontrolled diets and malnutrition can weaken the body’s resistance to infections, causing it to weaken the immune system. In this period, an infectious disease in the gingiva will also prolong the duration of the treatment.

Apart from stress, AIDS and cancer types can affect the body’s immune system and cause gingiva disorders to develop.

Another patient profile with open gingiva disease is tobacco users. Tobacco and tobacco products cause gingivitis irritation and impairment of gingiva strength, which facilitates the development of infection in irritation areas.

The most difficult group of patients to control gingiva disease is diabetes (sugar). It is the group of patients most likely to get gingiva disease.

Hormonal changes during pregnancy cause the gingiva to become more red, more sensitive to the bacterial plaque. The hormonal changes experienced during menopause and menstruation periods can also create gingiva sensitivity, which can lead to gingiva disorders.

There is a risk group in those who have problems with squeezing or gnashing. It causes the reduction of the strength between tooth and gingiva, causing periodontal tissue destruction, and it is necessary to stop it by attaching a night plate.

Used medicines can cause gingiva diseases. Birth control pills, antidepressants and some heart medicines can affect your oral health.

How can we be protected from gingiva diseases?

To protect tooth and gingiva, daily brushing of teeth regularly, cleaning food waste escaping between teeth by using dental floss and mouth gargling are used to remove bacteria from the mouth.

The daily routine maintenance with toothbrushing and dental flossing does not completely prevent the formation of tartar, necessitating periodic dental surveillance.

The tartar cleaning to be done by the dentist prevents obstacles to be formed in the gingiva that you can not clean it with toothbrush, dental floss.

Who Do Periodontal Treatments Do?

All dentists can identify periodontal diseases and treat early gingiva diseases. Some dentists are specialized in this area, with additional knowledge and experience to treat advanced periodontal disease. Dentists with this knowledge are called periodontists. The dentist believes that the patient should be treated by an expert if necessary and may send the patient to a periodontist. Together with the treatment of periodontal diseases, regular teeth brushing and regular dental visits can maintain healthy teeth for a lifetime.
