What is Root Canal Treatment?

What is the treatment of the canal and which teeth?

The outer layer of enamel and dentin layers of the tooth in the mouth and the remaining root in the bone are the layers of enamel and dentin. Under these layers there is a section called “pulp” which consists of vessels and nerves that provide the vitality of the tooth. Bacteria that cause tooth decay in the tooth when the vascular and nerves in the tooth close to the live tissue, prolonged gum disease or when a sudden trauma to the tooth is affected by pulp and untreated pulp is lost. Endodontics, ie canal treatment, is the dental branch that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of dental pulp in these root canals.

Canal treatment is pulp removal of the toothbrush. When the damaged, diseased or dying pulp is removed, the remaining space is cleaned, shaped and refilled. With this procedure, the root canal is closed and this is called canal treatment.

What are the stages of canal treatment?

First of all, the correct indication of the tooth to be treated with canal should be taken by a good intraoral examination and radiography. If the tooth has not lost its vitality or has not been previously treated with a canal, the tooth is anesthetized and the sensitivity of the tooth is eliminated. All the bruises in the tooth are cleaned and a suitable space is created to reach the pulp. Once the root canal length of the tooth is determined by electronic equipment or radiography, the infected tissues in the entire neck and root walls of the neck are removed. During this period, channels are disinfected and disinfectant channels are washed frequently and the intramuscular microorganisms are removed.

If there is no inflammation in the canal, the canal treatment can be completed in one session. However, at the root end of inflammation or previously treated in the channel of the drug by placing the drug into the channel should be waited 5-7 days and the canal treatment should be completed.

Is root canal treatment a painful procedure? Does the canal treatment hurt?

Following canal treatment, especially after the treatment of live teeth, the tooth may develop a folding pain for several days, or pain on the tooth. This is a normal pain after treatment. The root of the root canal treatment is removed with a little protection.

How many sessions of the root canal treatment last?

The canal treatment is completed in more than one session in the teeth where the symptoms such as abscess formation, presence of fistula and pain continue in one session in live teeth.

What are the complications that can be experienced during canal treatment?

Although it is not frequently present during treatment, root tip irritation may occur when the instruments used are overflowing to the root end of the canal washing solutions or canal filling, or by pushing the bacteria inside the canal to the root end.

Due to local anesthesia, regions such as tongue, lips or inner cheeks can be bitten.

As the teeth are filled with temporary filling between the sessions, when the hard foods are eaten, fractures due to trauma may occur.

It should not be forgotten that it is very normal to have pain in the tooth treated for two or three days after the canal treatment. Care must be taken not to chew the treated part. Pain relief by the physician may be used to reduce pain.

What is the success rate of root canal treatment?

Accurate indications are made and the success rate of properly treated canal treatments is over 90%. This success rate is 70-80%. With proper channel treatment and superstructure, the tooth can remain in the mouth for a long time.

What additional therapies should be applied to the teeth after the root canal treatment?

The indication of the superstructure to be made according to the amount of solid tissue remaining after the root canal treatment should be correctly established. It should not be forgotten that even if a correct and successful channel treatment is not performed correctly, the treatment of the tooth may be unsuccessful. In the teeth with low material loss, only the filling of the tooth can be completed; in the teeth with too much material loss, the materials that extend into the canal treatment and which are used to strengthen the upper structure can be used. Again, it may be necessary to fill the crown with a pro-trigger indication by looking at the condition of the tooth.
